9 декабря 1968 года Дуглас Энгельбарт впервые продемонстрировал разработанный им манипулятор. Само устройство было собрано входившим в его команду Биллом Инглишем.
Мышь, показанная Энгельбартом, была сделана из дерева и имела всего одну кнопку. Демонстрация проходила на системе NLS, которая имела функцию полнотекстового редактирования и умела ставить гиперссылки.
Сама мышь была изобретена в 1964 году, а устройства, которые можно считать ее предшественниками, появились в начале пятидесятых годов. С тех пор в мире выпускается множество мышей. В частности, компания Logitech в декабре отметила выпуск миллиардной мыши

По инициативе ООН 9 декабря отмечается «Международный день борьбы с коррупцией». В этот день в 2003 году в мексиканском городе Мерида на политической конференции высокого уровня была открыта для подписания Конвенция ООН против коррупции, принятая Генеральной ассамблеей 1 ноября 2003 года.
