I know people in my community who were helped by private donors to have cancer related operations.
What other references do you need?

Eddie Doym 19.07.2009 10:45

Гера,

The first this isn't my problem, this is our problem since you live in this country too. Ones again no one knows what could happened to you tomorrow, be carefully whatdo you wish for.
There is no such plan that would work for everybody’s and would make everybody’s happy. At least Obama propose something, if his opponents like you are have the alternative plan welcome to submit. But to say no without proposing instead anything doesn't required a lot of brain.

Гера Така 19.07.2009 10:49

I urge everybody to say NO - because, I'd rather live it as it is, then to allow the Government to take over.
I came to this country - not to have socialized anything, and because it is up to me to take care of myself.
It is my problem to help people to understand the difference between the free enterprise and Government run economy.

Eddie Doym 19.07.2009 11:15

it is up to me to take care of myself

You are able to take care of yourself to some extend, notfor every your need. Otherwise we would not need a police, army, legislativeand etc.The Government doesn't run economy, the government regulates the economy. In this case the government is trying to regulate the medical insurance coverage which is due a long time ago. As I told you before I haven’t read Obama's plan and I am pretty sure that this plan is not the best one, but I think it could be done something to make it work. But to kill it without proposing the alternative isn't a smart idea. The problem needs to be fixed now and ASAP; there are too many people without an access to the medicine.

Every person should try to take care of his/her family. It worked for me so far.
If everybody would be responsible, then we would not have to pay so much in taxes.
If you did not get it up to now, the Government will be running the economy, if we allow this take over. It will be just like any other socialist country, since the Health care portion of GDP is about 30 plus per cent, in addition to what we already have - military, airspace, automotive...
I had plenty of experience with the Government run economy, where I came from. By the way as people left that country - it collapsed.

Гера Така 19.07.2009 11:43

By the way, nobody is denied access to medical help. They provide it in the emergency room to everybody, who comes in.
Therefore, the rest of us already pay for it anyway.

Рита С 19.07.2009 12:13

Actually, de facto, uninsured people are denied access to medical help if they get in the emergency room. I have this experience with the members of my family. Before even look at you they ask you to show your insurance card.... otherwise they start whispering among themselves, avoid eye contact with you and let you sit there, though legally they are supposed tohelp you first. I don't know what to think. Honestly, I am scared. Iunderstand what you , guys, are saying, but I agree with Eddie too.

Гера Така 19.07.2009 12:24

There many things that are happening de facto.
This conversation is about fundamentals - de ure!
If the law is written and enacted - that is it. Everybody should follow it.
If you allow the government agency to set the rules, you will open the door for rationing and bribes by the ones who have, versus the ones who have not.

Khramaya 19.07.2009 12:34

Ok, let me run some numbers for you:
( why emergency room visits are a bad idea)
ED visit for chest pain ( without any major procedures) - about $2500. A visit to a primary care doctor - $80-100 plus EKG $20-50.
Bottom line, care in the office is much much cheaper then ED care.
Plus, many patients who don't have routine care arrive to the ED in much worse shape then if they were taken care of be a primary doctor - hence, much more expensive care again....
Those are such basics, hope anybody can understand this.
Even patients who are taken care of in residents run hospital clinics statistically show better overall health data then those without any care at all.
As they teach in any medical school: an once of prevention is worth a pound of cure.....

Khramaya 19.07.2009 12:38

Margarita, about ED care : if you are brought to the RGH or SMH ED :-) with appendicitis, a kidney stone, or a heart attack, no ED will turn you away. But is somebody will come with a sinus infection, maybe it's better to go to an urgent care enter....
They just need to prioritize and will triage very ill first.
The sicker you are, the faster help you get - rightfully so.
