Очередной улов нелегальных проституток в Канберре.
Arrangements are being made today for the removal of a group of illegal sex workers located working in brothels during a late-night immigration compliance operation.
The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) located the workers in two brothels in a complex in the industrial suburb of Fyshwick in Canberra’s south-east over the weekend.
A department spokesman said three of the women, from Thailand, have been transported to Villawood Immigration Detention Centre pending their removal from Australia.
The spokesman said two other Thai women found at a second brothel nearby were also questioned about their visa status.
One was granted a bridging visa due to a review of her visa status by the Migration Review Tribunal (MRT), after being found to be working in breach of her visa conditions, and the other was issued with a notice of intention to cancel her visa pending further discussions with the department this week.
Investigations into the circumstances of the employment of the women are continuing.
“This operation serves as a warning to individuals and employers that illegal work and breaches of immigration law will not be tolerated,” the spokesman said
