I know. Its abolition used to be a plank in the Republican platform. Well, after Reagan did not do it, there's no chance now. Talking about it is just a distraction. People are concerned about education and they suspect Republicans did not care. Talking about abolishing ED does not help.
In general, Angle and others like her appeal mostly to Republican base (i.e. voters like you and me). Unfortunately, the GOP base constitutes only about a quarter of the electorate. In order to win, the party has to appeal outside its base. If the Republicans win, it means they will get more votes from people who seriously disagree with National Review on some important issues than from those who agree. It's just a mathematical fact. For that matter, Angle does not even have an uniform appeal among the base. E.g. I seriously oppose making income tax unconstitutional.
