Lydmula - the phone line for the swine flu is not for diagnose of swine flu but it's a help line for people who think that they might have swine flu( I.e you suppose to call there if you have flu symptoms and not for finding out if you Do have the flu- as for the flu symptoms hopefully everyone knows them and you shouldn't need any extra help to distinguish them).

In regards to NHS direct I consider it as the most helpful attribute in our health system . I alsways check it first before panicking and making appointment with GP. And btw if you will contact nhs direct first and they will suggest to see gp you will never have a problem to see doctor immediately. My kid had a croup cough lard year we called nhs direct been suggested to take to gp, gp has seen him immediately. They organized appointment within 5 minutes. Which you can't do in any soviet country
