Mike, I know... It does not go by weight, it goes primarily by gestational age, and it is a moving target. His number might be a little old, since at 23 weeks and 6 days and at weights of less then 440 mortality is about 50-50.:-) It goes up from there and depends on a large number of variables. This is a huge very specialized discussion, btw, so I'm not sure this is the right place for it, but I can talk about it for hours:-) . In my practice there is a number of infants who were born barely over 1 lb at 23and1/2 weeks and they are healthy. BTW, most of those babies get some version of Medicaid to supplement neonatal ICU care where they spend 4 month at 15K per day. We all apy for them anyway.
