She just wanted to entertain an idea of prisoners quitting drugs in prison cold turkey without use of psychotropic drugs ( and it's the position shared by Scientologist, and some christian sects, and even many Russians who do not believe in medications). What's so crazy about it? Oh, well, maybe it's a little bit nuts because I believe in the power of drugs:-)

Well, yesterday (or the day before) she refused to say unequivocally she was not a Birther. She behaved almost like my former senator John Edwards - when some Truthers approached him in public with their crazy theories, he promised to check it all out and get back to them. And no, in fairness, not all Democrats are like that - in a similar situation the first words out of Bill Clinton's mouth were "How dare you?!" While the Birthers are, of course, not nearly outrageous as Truthers, I would still expect the Republican candidates to be more forceful - and as a minimum unequivocal. BTW NRA's going to endorse Reid.
But OK, what about repealing the income tax? What does she want to replace it with? Furthermore, she wants to abolish Social Security and Dept of Education. Unpopular positions. And thanks to her, now every Republican candidate will be asked "Do you want to abolish SS?" Already, thanks to Rand Paul, everybody will be asked "Would you vote for CRA?"

Maria, the problem is that less than 10% of Americans are conservatives (and yes, I am one of them) - if you use National Review's definition of a conservative. So it is impossible to win any majority without candidates that you call RINOs. And BTW I have a big problem with this term. As I recall, the Bolshevik Party was formed when Lenin at the Second Party Congress denounced Mensheviks as Social-Democrats In Name Only. Why should conservatives imitate Lenin rather than Reagan (with his Eleventh Commandment)?

BTW, Department of Education is a pretty useless thing created by Jimmy Carter. It need not exist, because every state must have it's own educational agenda and standards.
As history showed, the creation of ED did not improve any scholastic achievements by US school students. So, what is it's purpose?

I know. Its abolition used to be a plank in the Republican platform. Well, after Reagan did not do it, there's no chance now. Talking about it is just a distraction. People are concerned about education and they suspect Republicans did not care. Talking about abolishing ED does not help.
In general, Angle and others like her appeal mostly to Republican base (i.e. voters like you and me). Unfortunately, the GOP base constitutes only about a quarter of the electorate. In order to win, the party has to appeal outside its base. If the Republicans win, it means they will get more votes from people who seriously disagree with National Review on some important issues than from those who agree. It's just a mathematical fact. For that matter, Angle does not even have an uniform appeal among the base. E.g. I seriously oppose making income tax unconstitutional.

Я терпеть не могу обоих южнокаролинских сенаторов (эх, не было меня уже там, когда их обоих выбирали). А Angle бесполезно учиться. И Сенат ей подходит как корове седло - у неё совершенно не подходит personality.
Республиканцам нужны совсем другие лидеры. Республиканцу математически невозможно стать президентом, не набрав по крайней треть голосов в каждом из следующих городов: Ньй-Йорк, Чикаго, Филадельфия и Бостон (замечу, что Рейгану и Никсону это удавалось). А для этого нужен определённый тип кандидатов.
