:-) if YOU tell this joke or even anyone on the street I would most likely laugh.. but for a high ranking government official to tell this kind of joke before giving a speech, it's like - tell us how you really feel..(ch)

a speech in front of mostly Jewish audience from what i understood..

the joke is funny, regardless of who the merchant is - making him Jewish made it that much funnier. nothing about the joke depicts Jews as greedy merchants. the message of the joke (for those that didn't get it) is that no matter how much hate and negativity enemies of the Jews may spew in their (our?) direction, we will still prevail and have the last laugh.

yes, it was extremely inappropriate for a "high ranking government official" to portray a member of the taliban as a raving lunatic (all the while contrasting his behavior against the calm demeanor of the Jewish merchant) who wound up getting screwed in the end.

so, Mike, Jones was giving a speech how they are committed to prevent nuclear Iran and to Israel's security.. do you think they are really committed or was it also a joke? (ch)
